The boredom must of been extreme to do that.
@@Adonteon21 im ngl it got real tedious, especially during bozja spam and dps roulettes
As much as it always bothers me when there's a playable race of "basically a child," you can see why they did it in the FF games: in their endgame job-specific gear and glamours, they look like the classic sprites!
@@reloadpsi its funny that you say that, because i think most of the AF gear before like, endwalker looks like dogwater on lala. on the flipside though, if you can make a glam that looks good on lalafell, it'll also look good on basically any other race too, which makes my april fools transformations extra fun
WHM was the first job I took to 50 way back in 2.0. I remember starting off as a conjurer and mannnn, leveling a class/job back then felt like SUCH a task. There was a subjective element to it, of course, but also... yeah dude we just didn't have a whole lot of stuff in terms of exp options (and mind you this was even before roulettes were a thing)... Not compared to nowadays, at least! Game just about showers you with exp now lol. I'm not about to start a whole discussion about how bland jobs have become over the years and yada yada, but boy lemme tell you healing was actually difficult for me back in those days. I still remember my very first run of Coil Turn 1 and actually coordinating heals with my co-healer. I've not raided like that since Coil (mostly due to lack of interest and time). Anyways nowadays I main SGE. I really like its aesthetic cause 1) I like Gundam, and 2) I'm a doctor and this is basically techno magic doctor hahah. That said, WHM still holds a place in my heart. I've been playing since 2.0 beta and during that, I was a marauder. I spammed overpower during dungeon pulls and didn't really think anything of it, but I do remember thinking about how nerve-wracking it must be to play a healer in XIV. I was apprehensive about it but decided to take the leap and main it when 2.0 launched. Suffice to say my opinion on healers as being a stress-inducing role has definitely changed haha.
Well they f up AST, I already mained WHM but seeing AST simplification changes it is completely over. My go to are WHM and SCH based on what is needed. I like the 2 button attacks and I am the same way as you 😂 healing is by far the easiest job, its sad people still dont get that or are afraid to heal/tank. The only time you put in work is when you need to heal the dps(BLM) that arent do the mechanics correctly but thats what makes some runs fun when you actually get to work lol
I main Dragoon and i can't see that changing. I do like Gunbreaker and Pictomancer though. You should share your hotbar layouts for the controller.

Blood for the Blood Lily!
One thing about whm is that its identity is THE healer. Even the damage skills have that holy look so they feel like healer skills. Also, no healer can compete with Benediction.
What gives me feelings of power as a WHM? Stuff like The Void Ark, where I'm usually at least in the top 3 (if not the very top) DPS until the first boss 😛 WHM lets me live my green DPS dreams while having enough emergency heal buttons to still be able to fulfill the core job requirements easily enough (most of the time/in basic content). I like my short queues and seeing how much deeps I can crank out while still keeping people alive, it's like a personal challenge.
@@alibutterfly82 if you aint holy spammin you aint livin
@@Bonzi77 This is going to sound now like I'm saying it in jest since it's in response to what you just said, but truly - Holy spam and its trash stun is part of your healing kit, and I don't think enough people appreciate that. Stuns = no incoming damage until they wear off = you keeping your tank alive, while also fulfilling your secondary priority aka damage.
@ i keep trying to tell people stuns are mit and nobody listens to me!!
@@Bonzi77 Well... at least we know there's two of us preaching the gospel of "stuns are mit" ;-p
I started playing the game in Endwalker (I made an account in Stormblood, but didn't click with the game), and it took me the entirery of Endwalker... To get to Endwalker (I was a roulette fiend, so I had almost every job at 70 or 80 by the time I got there). Despite this, Dragoon became my melee DPS of choice, and it's the class I ended up going into end-game content with in Dawntrail. Losing Dragon Sight between EW to DT really stung. I really liked that button, and was actually very skeptical of the rework. After getting to 100 in Dawntrail, I ended up mostly enjoying the busy burst windows. Now with 7.1... The class just feels so hollow. 1 minute burst feels terrible, and it just kind of highlighted the fact that when I'm not bursting there just isn't much going on... Weird to me that removing 2 weaves ruined the job for me, but here we are. I still play it when I don't feel like trying hard, and it's still my favorite melee DPS aesthetically, but I just enjoy playing Monk so much more now when I actually want to focus on a fight. I'm really hoping a patch rectifies this, but looking at all the changes that have happened so far... I'm not holding my breath. Nevertheless, I quite enjoyed hearing your story. Thank you for sharing it! Looking forward to your opinions on the other classes. Honestly, I'm almost inspired to do something similar once I get more experience on the game.
Hardcore Casual is best vibe. I'm max level in all jobs. Don't do Savage or Ultimate, or PvP. I don't need BiS gear for any Job. But what I _do_ love, I do to the max. Now that I don't have to worry about leveling until next expac, I can focus on what I love the most -- helping my friends and randos have a good time in XIV. White Mage is fun but I actually like Sage a bit better because healing by DPS is also a fine vibe. That being said, my real love is Red Mage because aesthetics and who wouldn't want to have the power to save a party from impending wipe in 15 seconds or less?
Dude keep it up, great content! Love the jokes as well

"it's not that hard" have you played into shb? I've lost count of how many people skip to 90 on whm and ask me to explain it like I can just dump all the healer info I've gotten in a mere 4 hours
The second half of the video is basically me discussing how I feel about content scaling across the entire main scenario questline. give that a watch if you're interested, and I'd be curious to hear your further thoughts after that. and if I misunderstood and you're responding to the whole video, I guess I'm not really sure what you mean by this comment and thats on me lol
@@Bonzi77 I watched it, (commented right before the SHB part tbh) but the thing is simply, the "this is easy, too easy" is such a weird concept for a game, let alone one made for a wide general audience and not a niche hardcore one. Around SHB, every dungeon was demanding much more out of me as a healer and ive gotten used to it, each expansion has been like that. Even the new Jueno I've gotten used to but Ive had to hard carry the healing there at times. Is it easy? yes, but most games are made for that, even if its competitive like a MOBA, its generally easy, so people can pick it up, play it, and enjoy it. I never felt a love for say Astro being "harder and more demanding" when its just as simple, more convoluted, and jsut busier with ogcd options for instance. Still on the other end of maining the easiest healer, and having a white mage glam that clearly states im a WHM, I get lots of people wanting me to teach them what are now years of healing optimization, or even just the base of the WHM class up to 90... They do this cause its "the easiest" and I find it outright insulting when I talk with them just to learn they have basically never touched healing in the game and jsut thought they could do a good job... meanwhile Ive had to hard carry in Jueno as WHM as if I was solo healing... meanwhile i haer comments even here about white never healing.
@ yeah, i get what you mean there. healing IS definitely a thankless job, and some people make it look really effortless. my thing is that, looking at healing from a casual perspective, ease of entry becomes a MUCH bigger deal when you're not going to be especially pushing the boundaries of any given job. personally, i think it's best to think of WHM as a stepping stone or entry way to the more complex world of healing, and if you think about it, pretty much every role has that. now, i actually don't think every role _needs_ that entry quite like healing does, because i think it's good for some things to just be difficult, with no alternative. summoner used to be a complex, nearly broken mess, but it was a complex mess that people worked around and figured out. now it's been pulled back to one of the most simple rotations in the game, to the point where its skill ceiling and floor are nearly an overlapping line. i hope it's clear that me stating that the baseline level of a job being easy isn't quite the same as the high-end hardcore complexity of jobs in cutting edge content. and for what it's worth, i do agree with you that if somebody is boosting to 90 and then immediately demanding somebody teach them wtf to do on the fly, that's a problem with the person who boosted, and isn't a great mentality to play the game with.
@@Bonzi77 In general? yeah but in 14? Itrs loved, ive gotten so much love I got off my MOBA games for 14 cause people actually appreciated me as a healer/support here. that ease of entry is def early ARR, the very early duties all feel like testing the players if they paid attention to halls of the novice and such. WHMs simplicity is also in large part its strentgh, theres a lot of stuff in other healers where you can combo things, do this and that for a bigger effect or soemthing but WHM is very much "lillies? free 0 mp cost cure 2 potency, or medica potency". so much of it is really really damn powerful I think scholar should be simplified next, it has a ton of niche buttons i may or may never touch. but I sadly cannot enjoy summoner as its jsut burning through the spells until theyre used up... I think id rather try out the more complicated version of it i hear about... least in the pvp its fun and interesting. those people enver DEMANDED i do anyhting, they asked, and id find out they knew so little about anything... healing, ogcds, spell weaving, slide casting, etc... that it becomes clear to me they simply just boosted the job, like how are you gonna be a whm and not know a major mechanical ability you have like lillies??? not even blood lily, LILLIES... and basically I wasted my time trying to teach them a bunch of stuff because theyre more than likely going to be playing their boosted healer AT that high level they bought and not tkae it from the bottom like I do when I get a class thats not from ARR. to try and minimize the pain of learning theyre gonna need... not jsut healers either, its very evident when someone doesnt know a common mechanic, like CHAINS, which can easily wipe at the end of HW at lvl 60... personal story but still, the tank and dps didnt recognize the chains nor do them correctly and I was told over and over again they "got it this time"... its probably why the ahll of the novice has been updated with extra motivation, like the new ring i got for extra leveling my ARR classes. im really happy baout that and i can only hope it helps prevent some booster from say being my tank or healer, some of them even stream yet they boosted and thought "oh this (whm) will be easy". THATS why i find it insulting. not you, or your ideas on it, its meant to be very easy and I love it for that.
Would deff be interested in a mahjong vid
as a former monk main, there's nothing to be intimidated by. it's easier than ever thanks to dawntrail's changes, which is probably good for new blood but which has turned me off for now because i have to restructure my hotbars to match SE's flow HAHA.... i've been putting it off. i'd love to hear your feelings on scholar at some point! it's what i main now and i find it very fun -- whm has been on my to-level list, but it was so boring the first 50 levels i can't justify not just playing sch instead
@@hybridlawify i'm actually super excited about the scholar one, that's one of the videos I'm planning on having a guest for!! i'm afraid i wont have much very flattering to say... but my guest will!
I main WHM and SCH too! I am curious what you think of the MNK changes? I actually like the rotation now as its something less to worry about when doing mechanics as MNK use to be heavy on positionals. Now you can sorta shut that part off and focus on mechanics and flow
@@SemekiIzuio i'm unfortunately that type of mnk main who loved positionals and misses them HAHA... ironically i feel like having to focus on those + rotation + mechanics in a dungeon or raid really scratched that itch for me, but i'm also the type of person who needs to have multiple things going on concurrently in order to fully focus. that said, i think from an overall perspective it's probably a good thing mnk had the overhaul, mostly because i hope it'll mean more people will try it out and pick it to main. i love mnk with all my heart even now and it always makes me so excited to see new mnk mains!! i plan on restructuring my bars and getting back to playing mnk though... eventually.
@@hybridlawify understandable, although I may not agree on the simplification for a lot of jobs in EW DT, mnk was the one that made things better considering how heavy savages and extreme are in end content compared to the stuff in SB and prior but well I wasnt a mnk main even though I enjoyed it, it was one those high ceiling dps so perhaps it's why I found it much more accessible now? Unfortunately it suffered from being a top dps because of this as they are trying to make every job the same now.
The "Where I Break Down..." joke actually got me really good Great delivery. Also: I have cleared UWU with Sage and Savage with Astro. Still never learned white mage

There's a lot of really weird takes in this video, I don't know if it's just inexperience or tunnel vision, but the title is literally why you do something so I'm glad you're having a good time. WHM is the most chill healer though for sure. I wouldn't say it's "easy", perfectly optimizing healing in this game is actually fairly tricky which is why I enjoy it so much, but you can absolutely brain off no think in anything less than extreme content and that's beautiful.
@@swiftdasher i'd be curious to hear more about that; believe it or not, i dont really get too many comments actually interrogating my opinions lol
@@Bonzi77 I feel like if I really went into it I'd just end up sounding like "my opinion good your opinion bad" and that's not what I'm out here trying to do. I play hardcore casual too in the way you described, I probably just enjoy things in a different way than you do. If you were presenting this as any kind of authority I'd maybe dig into what you're saying more but you're just out here saying why you like what you like and that's great. To make it short, I was given pause when you said you have a hard time justifying playing different healer jobs. I don't know if you NEVER do or just prefer to be a chill guy in a white mage outfit throwing out heals and that's what you do most often, but I definitely mix it up depending on content, but at the same time I like feeling like I'm able to carry groups in whatever role I'm playing. I suppose the main thing was the reduction of WHM to "DOTs, heals, mechanics", because I'm my experience a lot of WHM and AST players, moreso WHM, talk like the class is just topping up after damage, but the kits are all pretty similar in that you need to know what's coming and prepare for it so you can have more DPS uptime, although the healers have a lot more leeway with than than the barrier jobs do. Anyway, good stuff overall, appreciate the open mindedness asking for details. Also obligatory "Ninja isn't even that hard man"
given what I said in the video, your opinion makes a lot of sense. I think one thing I could've emphasized better is the fact that healer is by far my least played role, so I tend to seek out ease of use when I do play it. good insights all around except that ninja thing i'm sorry i cant let it slide. mudras scarey
@@Bonzi77 that makes a lot more sense with it being your least played role, gotcha. I like healer because it's just kind of a vibe, but you can also get really sweaty with it. my main healer is Sage so I'm a barrier boy but I do really enjoy white mage, it's very chill and feels really good. My real main is ninja though, you just go bing bing bong debuff bing, bing bong lightning bolt bing, bing bong lightning bolt, nothing to it 😂
I love whm whole aesthetic, the only issue I have with the job is how stiff and lacking the kit feels, while when I play as any other healer I have the freedom of planning to aproach a situation in so many different ways.
as a DRK main, you almost had me there for a moment
Cool
I wouldn't worry about brain rot, eh. I think the anxiety is focused more around the fact that SE feels like each job needs 400 individual skills to pick from on GCD, which other MMOs have been moving away from for a while. Having a healing class that doesn't require micro-micro management is just a breath of fresh air.
you main it cuz you like pressing one button and not healing
Correct!
Whm heals a bunch
I'd honestly not mind pressing one button if it was a healing button. If they're going to make healers do damage, I'm glad it's at least simple.
HEY! When I played White Mage I DID heal and I pressed TWO buttons!
@@obscurereference8798 hmmmmmmm.....
imo even if white mage is the easiest healer there's a lot of things easier than it; besides the two you mentioned i feel pretty comfy putting MCH and RDM below it, and reasonably comfy putting DNC there too... maybe my brain is melted from playing so much AST though, WHM always feels like "AST with less tools" to me and it makes my head hurt haha
@@Sylviaon the funny thing is, if it weren't for the card mechanic, I feel like astrologian would be way lower. the cards alone just increase the mental stack and APM needed to play efficiently pretty heavily. scholar is only so high because i just generally have a hard time wrapping my head around it, but thats my problem mch is higher for me due to high complexity apm reasons (same as gnb, viper is so low because even though it requires high apm it feels like pretty simple high apm and the filler is really easy) and rdm is higher due to still needing to be pretty flexible in reacting to procs i definitely see an argument for having dnc lower though
also i completely agree with you about difficulty scaling. in arr i felt like i could basically heal without paying much attention at all just because nothing did any damage, and in hw/stb i had enough tools to completely rely on ogcd healing without having to manage cooldowns or pay much attention to how i used them, so when I got to shb and mechanics started somewhat mattering and I needed to actually plan my moves to succeed optimally i had an expansion long mental breakdown where i reverted to a pure ranged-DPS player before finally locking in and learning how to properly succeed with my preferred role... strongly remember my first time in malikahs well, coming out of an msq roulette and still being in the mindset of "none of this matters and i may as well stand in puddles if i want" only to get instakilled by that damn armadillo and actually loved it. its weird that so much of the early game is essentially filler, disguised by the fact that you're too new to know it doesnt matter yet. anyways, good vid, i enjoyed hearing your thoughts and the editing was good!
@@Bonzi77 oh yeah sch is definitely hard, no debate there. I don't get it either lol fair enough on your rankings! personally i think dnc is the hardest of the three i mentioned cuz its just so random and all the procs make me stare at my hotbar and get clipped by attacks haha
It's becos Whm is easier than Ast. And they're both easier than Scholar or Sage.
@@zlonewolf hardest part of sge is remembering which futuristic-looking blue button is which
I find WHM to be an excellent intro to healing, honestly. I wanted to play SGE from the START. I started out as a tank main (and of course, my main tank is the one I started with), and I was scared of healing because I already have tankxiety. But once I unlocked SGE, I was like, oh it's YOU, the class I was ACTUALLY curious about... but of course, having it unlocked at a high level means I got bombarded with buttons, so the idea of learning a new class at 70, let alone a healer, was intimidating as FUCK. So I decided, okay. Let's start from the beginning. Starting with WHM helped me ease into healing as a role. It worked out very well for me, honestly, especially with how simple it ended up being - I found myself terrified at first but I quickly realized that it's not that bad. I even _enjoy_ it and still play it now. Then I decided to try SCH so I could understand shield healing prior to trying SGE, and AST because I thought it was pretty... ... and now I'm a healer main, with SGE at the front. I'd say my plan worked out nicely, though it's funny how I went to such a roundabout way just to learn one class. Anyway, point is: WHM is a great class to heal with. You wanna learn healing? WHM is the way to go.
I main-main white mage as in up until EW it was my only job I had leveled (outside the points of Arcanist and Thaumaturge you used to need to unlock whitemage - YES, that's how long I've played the game) and Iunno I like healing even though it stresses me out and triggers me with all the knuckleheads online. It just has a lot more going on... I sort of like the tension. When I leveled my other jobs to 90 last expansion I felt like it made me a better tank cuz I knew which parts of content hurt a whole a bunch or stress me out as a healer so I knew to use my mitigations properly and as DPS I got to chill out and just press my buttons and blow things up - I don't really need to think when I'm a DPS. It's really awesome. I'd level more jobs but to be honest I stuck with Whitemage because I just wanted to be good at my job. I found that when others level all jobs it doesn't translate to mastery of all jobs... which to me is an annoying way to play. So I got Whm, Paladin, Monk. Now I got Picto also and I'm gonna try to get bard and summoner too.
Happy WHM, happy WHM. I'm here for the view, my fingers are pressing buttons regardless. Handshake fellow whm
I suppose we could validate our choice like this, too: "Who wants to have an opinion on healers?" _everyone raises their hand_ "Why wants to heal?" _crickets_ "That's what I thought."

Honestly, just build it back from the beginning. The way I learn advanced jobs that start at higher levels is to just go through all the skills one at a time, and piece together how they fit as you go through the levels. If you're really lost, a new run of Palace of the Dead can be a really good way to give yourself an enforced crash course through the basics. Failing all that, look up some youtube guides!
